Do Injuries Affect Player Attributes?

I know that injured players who are still played are affected by injuries during the games but I'm curious as to whether or not injuries affect player attributes outside of in-game play. For example, my 24 year old RDE had 84 speed but sustained a leg injury during the season. After the injury it seems like his speed has been bumped down to 83. He was right at weight so it couldn't have been due to a weight change. Is this a product of his injury or is it simply just him losing speed earlier in his career? I've seen players lose current attributes when they're older but I don't think I've ever seen a case where a player at the age of 24 starts declining. If it's due to injury will he regain the speed that he lost even though he's still "0% above average"?
