This is a great time to get a team as you will be able to build it from scratch! If you don't want to wait for the draft, though, check to see if there is a team in an established league that you can take over.

Retirement Question

Is it predetermined (obviously hidden) if player A is going to retire?

OR do injuries during the season affect their decision?

I guess what I am asking is during the season should I do a better job monitoring my stupidly signed high bonus players to prevent early retirements. Lol

Retirement is based on a random calculation that considers the age of the player, how many serious injuries he has had (not minor injuries), and whether he has been on a team in the last 2-3 years. The probability value that is used is the same that is displayed on the player card (although of course the player card number is more vague than the actual number).
