player progression question

Does a player progress slower if he is a backup vs. starting? Or is my first round QB who is a 59/94 just developing excruciatingly slowly?

The only difference playing time makes is the player reaches 100 position experience faster.

This is important because a player's current rating is in some ways dependent on his position experience.
